Wega Arts Script to screen

SCREENWRITING AND FILMMAKING WORKSHOP FOR TEENAGERS

Script to Screen is an educational program for creative high school students that have an interest in the art of narrative screenwriting. If you have ever wanted to write a short film that is produced with a professional crew and a budget, this is that opportunity!

So, how does it work? It all starts with a pitch! A pitch is a document outlining your story and characters. During open submissions, we will accept all pitches and at the end of the submission deadline we will choose TEN to be workshopped and written one-on-one with industry professional writers teaching the screenwriting process.

We are looking for a script that we can produce at approximately 15 minutes in length. After learning about screenwriting from our mentors, one of the scripts will be chosen to be professionally produced. The students in the program will be able to interact and help create a professionally produced short film. The film will then premiere at the Weyauwega International Film Festival on November 14th!

The student whose pitch is chosen to be made into a film will also receive a $250 cash prize!

Who are these people!?

We are a collection of filmmakers who wish to involve the youth in the world of filmmaking and to offer educational opportunities that are hard to find. Our goal is to create an annual screenwriting program that encourages youth to express themselves and to explore the world of narrative filmmaking.

Our team consists of filmmakers Ian Teal, Kathy Fehl & Todd Mallasch from WEGA ARTS, and award winning director/cinematographer Max Hauser. The project manager is Kristy Stacy from Wega Arts.

Wega Arts last film workshop produced the short film HEROES RISING addressing the opioid problem. Students will work with experienced screenwriters and filmmakers to develop and complete their scripts at each meeting.

One of our mentors is Hollywood Writer and Producer Liz Kruger. Liz has written and executive produced for such shows as CHARMED, BULL, SALVATION, EXTANT and many others.

How To Write a Pitch

A pitch is your chance to show your ideas in a simple and attention-grabbing fashion. A pitch runs through the basic storyline, characters, locations and look of what you are imagining! Help us en-vision your film, why it is important, and breakdown all the details. Pitch length can vary, especially for full length films, but for a short film, such as we are developing here, it can be short (1-3 pages). Remember, we are looking to make a film of about 15 minutes in length.

Your pitch should include

Log Line: A two to three sentence hook for your film.

Lion King Log Line: Lion cub and future King Simba searches for his identity. His eagerness to please others and penchant for testing his boundaries sometimes gets him into trouble.

Story Synopsis: A detailed description of your film from beginning, middle to end. What is the story, who/what is involved and how will it end? Written in paragraph form. Think outside the box!

Character and location breakdowns: Clear and detailed descriptions of each character and their backstory as well as a list of locations that will be needed for the film.

About you: Tell us why you are interested in this particular story.

Also be sure to include your name, age, address, email address and phone number on your pitch.
